Obituary for Dorothy "Dottie" Chamblee

Dorothy “Dottie” Chamblee, age 79, of Atlanta, Texas went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 01, 2017 at a family residence in Gilmer, Texas.

Dorothy was born in Ashdown, Little River County, Arkansas to Hercial Lafayette Falkner, (19041-1984) born in Ida, Louisiana and Geneva Casey Falkner, (1918 – 2004) born in Atlanta, Texas; they lived in Ashdown all their life and are buried in Ashdown Cemetery. Dorothy and her only sibling, Hercial Wayne Falkner, born in 1947, share the same April 7th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Chamblee; and her parents, Hercial and Geneva Falkner.

Dorothy has been a resident of Atlanta since 1964 and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church since 1975. She and husband Jerry Reagan Chamblee were married there on 29th October 1975 by Bro. Roy Shelton, Jr.

Dorothy’s education included Ashdown, AR public schools. She was blessed to have a best friend, Betty Ann Robbins (now Mrs. Eddie Grissom) who carried “a ton of books” for her as they attended their beloved 2-story Ashdown High School. They “switched their career choices” when starting Texarkana Junior College; Betty to an Accounting Major and Dorothy to the Medical field to learn lab work. Dorothy graduated from St. Michael’s School of Medical Technology, where she worked until 1964, then moved to Atlanta, Texas. She was employed at Ellington Clinic; the new Atlanta Memorial Hospital for a short time, and then Family Practice Clinic. She also worked part-time at Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown, Arkansas before retiring from Family Practice Clinic in October of 1975.

She is survived by her brother, Hercial Wayne Falkner and wife Nancy of Mena, Arkansas; nieces, Karla Sue Falkner Parker of Mena, Arkansas, Teri Lynn Falkner Clements of Mena, Arkansas, Julie Renee’ Falkner Lunsford of Texarkana, Texas; very special cousins, Pam and Bubba Casey of Gilmer, Texas; her aunts, Louise Coleman Falkner of Ashdown, AR, Florence Casey Milligan of Queen City, Texas, Mae Casey Gilmore of Harleton, Texas and a number of other great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 4, 2017 at Smyrna Baptist Church under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Bro. Gary Terry officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, August 4, 2017 from 12 Noon to 1:30 pm at Smyrna Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Smyrna Cemetery.
