John Michael Hanner

John Michael Hanner was born and raised in Atlanta, Texas. He attended Stephen F. Austin University, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Business and Finance. Mike has been back in Atlanta working for Hanner Funeral Service since 1992. Mike has other business interests, including the restaurant industry, but his true passion lies in the funeral business. As the fourth generation of Hanners, Mike grew up surrounded by the love, compassion, and integrity that make the Hanner Funeral Service name.

Mike is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Atlanta Chamber, supports the Lion's Club, and works with local veterans and senior citizens. He believes in staying current and moving forward in the funeral industry and therefore is a member of and supports Selected Independent Funeral Homes, the Texas Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association. He is a Christian and an active member of First United Methodist Church in Atlanta. He has a wife, Kerri, and two children, Annemarie Grace and Cole Michael. In Mike's spare time, he enjoys running and working out. He loves spending time behind the grill and hanging out with his family, and is an avid duck and big game hunter.

Bill Griffin

Bill Griffin was born and reared in Atlanta, Texas. Bill is active in the Atlanta community. He has been a member of the Atlanta Area Rotary club for a number of years and is a past chairman of the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Foundation. He was drawn to the funeral service out of a desire to be of service to families in their time of need. He is married to the former Rosalie Wolf. He enjoys traveling and spending time at their lake house.

Virginia Surratt

Virginia was born in 1948 in Bowie County, Texas. She graduated from New Boston High School in 1966 and attended nursing school in 1981. After working for Day and Zimmerman for 13 years as a bay supervisor, she asked that God give her a more meaningful job in a Christian environment. She feels she was blessed in 1996 when she was hired at Hanner Funeral Service. Virginia has attended Trinity Assembly of God in Corley, Texas, since the age of 5. She is a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted Christian, and a warm and friendly face at Hanner Funeral Service.

Gary Stewart

Gary was born in 1947 in Atlanta, Texas, and has lived in Atlanta for most of his life. He has been married to Gayle Washington Stewart for more than 36 years. They have two married children: daughter Lana Paige and husband Brian, and son David and wife Jennifer. They have three granddaughters: Ryleigh Paige and twins Emma and Olivia Stewart. Gary and Gayle are members of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. They have been active in the youth and nursery for over 30 years. In his spare time, Gary likes to spend time with his family. He loves to camp and travel the Texas Hill Country. Gary believes the funeral service is a calling. Gary is a valued staff member at Hanner Funeral Service.

Arvine Smith

Arvine Smith, mostly known as "Jr.," began working for Hanner Funeral Service in 1975. Jr. is a hard worker, loyal, and someone you can depend on. Jr. has a job description that is never-ending. He helps in many different areas. He is very giving of his time and energy. He has a wife, Sheila, and four children.

Will Allen, also known as "Big," joined Hanner Funeral Service in 1985. Big is a hard worker and always has a smile to offer. He is a loyal employee and enjoys his job. He is married to his wife, Mary, and has two children.

Susan Drake

Susan joined the Hanner team in 2009 after relocating to Atlanta with her husband Eddie. She is excellent at helping grieving families with the many details involved in processing the paperwork associated with the funeral process. Susan and Eddie have two children, two grandsons and two granddaughters. She is a Christian and an active member of the Holly Street Church of God in Atlanta. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, working with children at the church and ladies ministries.

Kathy Long

Kathy has worked on and off for Hanner Funeral Service for several years. She began as a secretary and currently works part-time, answering the phones and sitting with families during their visitation. She enjoys serving and comforting families during their time of need. She feels it is a wonderful job and that it is a blessing to be a part of Hanner Funeral Service. Kathy has one child, Abbie. She is a member of First Baptist Church and has been a Sunday school teacher for 21 years. She enjoys shopping and cooking in her spare time.

Betty Russell

Betty was born and raised in Cass County and graduated from McLeod High School. She worked for First United Methodist as the church secretary for over eight years and retired in 1998. She did not have plans to go back into the work area, but began at Hanner Funeral Service on a temporary basis, and became a regular part-time employee in 2009. Betty is a member of First United Methodist Church, where she serves as a Greeter and Community Outreach person. She is a member of New Gleaners Life Class at the church. Betty has three daughters, one grandson, and one great-grandson. Her hobbies are gardening, cooking, and visiting with friends and family. She enjoys the beauty of God's creation and likes to spend time outdoors.

Harriet Myers

Harriet joined Hanner Funeral Service office staff in 1990. She worked under Randy Hanner for over 20 years and feels privileged to have done so. She says it is a blessing to be able to meet so many wonderful people through her job and she enjoys visiting with each one. Harriet is married, and has one daughter and two granddaughters who live in the Houston area. She enjoys spending her free time visiting with them.

James Wallace

James is a Navy veteran from the Viet Nam era, which began his life in public service. He served 34½ years in the United States Postal Service. His is an ordained Baptist Minister of 28 years, having served as a bi-vocational pastor, in the state park ministry, and at life events for family and friends. He felt the call to minister to families at a time of their greatest loss, and Hanner Funeral Service and divine providence came together to provide that opportunity. He is married to Evaughn, his wife of 44 years, and together they have been blessed with two children, their spouses, and four grandchildren. James enjoys family times and outdoor activities. He believes that hope, life, and every good gift is from God above. His says that Faith, Family, and Service provide opportunities to be thankful.

Scott Carter

Scott Allen Carter was born in Texarkana, Arkansas in 1968. In 1976, Scott moved to Texas and spent his Elementary and Junior High School years there. After eight years, Scott returned to Arkansas to complete his High School years at Arkansas High School. Scott earned his diploma, completing his general studies in 1987. From 1987-1989, Scott attended Texarkana Junior College working on an Associate’s Degree. Although Scott knew in his heart, the path for him was to help the community so, in 1990, Scott attended the Dallas Institute of Funeral Services and continued his studies until graduation in 1991.  Scott then began his career as a Funeral Director and Embalmer at Texarkana Funeral Home where he served his community for fifteen years. In 2004, Scott moved to Glenwood, Arkansas to become General Manager of Davis-Smith Funeral Homes in Glenwood and Hot Springs, Arkansas. In 2007, Scott returned to Texas where he began working for Hanner Funeral Service, Atlanta, Texas, as a funeral director and embalmer. In 2010, Scott earned the title of General Manager.

                                                                                           

Scott is a member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes, as a member of Selected Independent, Scott has attended each Selected Management Summit since inception. Scott is also a member of The Atlanta Lion’s Club. Scott and his family are parishioners of Faith Community Church of The Nazarene. 

 

In his spare time, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife Misty Carter and his children, Mason, Clayton, Marissa and Devin. Scott also enjoys being a grandfather to his four grandchildren, Kameron, Kyleigh, Tatum and Lailah.

Tom Peavy

Tom Peavy, born in Lufkin, Tex.and graduating from Lufkin high school and attending Stephen F Austin served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War. Graduated from North Texas University and worked 16 years selling oil and gas production equipment in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and the Rocky Mountains. Moved to Atlanta in 1988 and opened the Edward Jones office, retired from Raymond James Financial Service in 2009. In 2010 he joined the Hanner family serving as a funeral directors assistant. He is married with two grown daughters and three granddaughters. Tom is a member of the Northeast Texas Patriot Guard and enjoys spending time during the summer taking road trips on his Motorcycle.

Kerri Hanner

Kerri moved from Dallas to the Atlanta area in 1997 when she married her husband, Mike Hanner. She attended the University of North Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in Texarkana with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in English and Journalism. She taught for eight years and made the decision to stay home when she had her first child. She enjoys working with Mike on advertising and various projects for the funeral home. She has been married for over 14 years and feels blessed to have one daughter, Annemarie, and one son, Cole Michael. She has been a member of First United Methodist Church for over 15 years and has been involved with the Children's Ministry though teaching Sunday school and directing Children's Choir. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and reading good novels. Her greatest joy is spending time with her family.

Tim Brown

Tim an Atlanta resident graduated in 1986. In 1993 he surrendered to the call to go into ministry and went to East Texas Baptist University graduating in 1996. Having a servant’s heart and wanting to still do ministry without pastoring Tim joined the Hanner family in the summer of 2014. He became a licensed funeral director 2016. He enjoys spending time hunting, fishing and attending Atlanta Rabbit football games.  He has two children, Jonathan Brown and Bethany Brown Keppel.

Brian Cloninger

Brian Cloninger was born and raised in Cass County, but he has lived in Bloomburg, Texas the past 20 years.  Brian is married to Shelley and they have 7 children; Dylan Harrist, Kalea Cloninger, Haylee Campbell, Audree Jones, Avaree Jones, Mylee Jones and Briley Cloninger.  Brian loves people, community and anything Bloomburg.  His hobbies are fishing, hunting and spending time with friends and family.

Brian started working with Hanner Funeral Service in January 2017 as Funeral Director Assistant. He is also employed at Red River Army Depot since 2010.

Mandi Holcomb

Mandi Holcomb was born and raised in Atlanta, Texas. She graduated from Atlanta High School and then

attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, where she earned her Bachelor of

Business Administration in Accounting. Mandi joined Hanner Funeral Service in 2014. She is married to

Joshua and is the proud mother of two children, Haylie and Hayden. In her spare time, she enjoys

reading and spending time with family.

Wes Chambers

Wes Chambers- Wes graduated from LSU in 1968 and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1970 and served as a Baptist minister for 45 years. He has lived in Atlanta since 1984 when he began serving First Baptist Church. He retired here with his wife Carol, in 2013.  Carol is a graduate of the University of Georgia. After retirement, he joined the Hanner family as a funeral director's assistant, a minister to families without a church and as a grief support facilitator. He has two sons, Chad and Josh, and their wives, Teresa and Autumn. God has blessed us with seven grandchildren.
