Obituary for Chrystal Fouche

Chrystal Walker Fouche, 92, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 in Odessa, Texas. Born on April 5, 1925 in Bivins, Texas to Janie Meda White-Walker and H. Frank Walker, Chrystal was raised in Atlanta, Texas and was a graduate of Atlanta High School. Following graduation she attended Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana where she was a proud member of the College Capers Singing and Dance Troup which entertained enlisted soldiers in World War II.
Chrystal married James Phillip Fouche on May 18, 1947 in Atlanta, Texas. That same year Chrystal and Phillip moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. The oilfield then took them to Abilene and finally brought them to Odessa where they made their home. Chrystal was a loving homemaker who volunteered her time to the Boy Scouts of America, Permian Football Booster Club, and various PTAs. She also was a proud member and past president of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary better known as the “Pink Ladies.” After raising her children, Chrystal became an avid golfer at both Sunset Golf Course and Odessa Country Club where she was an active member of the Odessa Country Club Women’s Golf Association. She also volunteered as a computer lab teacher at Pease Elementary and then went on to be a substitute teacher for Ector County Independent School District. Chrystal was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Odessa, the Builder’s Sunday School class and most recently the 8 O’clock Adult Sunday School class.
Chrystal was tremendously proud of her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joys. Meme never missed a game, recital, social event, or concert. In fact, her “bleacher charisma” became so well known that the Permian Basin Association of Sports Officials awarded her an honorary whistle and jersey. She especially loved the Permian Panthers, the Texas A&M Aggies and the Dallas Cowboys.
Chrystal was preceded in death by her husband Phil Fouche, Sr.; her parents Janie and Frank Walker; her sister Christine Stephens; and brothers Norman Walker and Don Walker. She is survived by her son Phil Fouche, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Odessa; daughter Lynn Correa and husband, Randy, of Odessa; grandchildren Todd Fouche and wife, Melissa, of Frisco; Andy Fouche of New York, New York; Ashlee Thompson and husband, Joe Dee, of Odessa; Jody Harvey and husband, Aaron, of Trophy Club; Nathan Hopkins and wife, Kim, of Frisco; Johnny Hopkins and wife, Jena, of Odessa; great-grandchildren Tatum and Carter Fouche; Gavin, Graham, and Gray Thompson; Parker and Peyton Harvey; Camden, Noel, and Kate Hopkins; Addison and Alexis Hopkins; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
