Obituary for Aubrey "Hoss" May, Jr.

Aubrey “Hoss” May, Jr. entered into eternal rest August 17, 2018 to join his fellow sailors on a ship anchored in God’s Harbour.

Hoss was born May 13, 1948 in Linden, Texas to Doris Wicker-May and Aubrey May Sr. He was a member of Laws Chapel United Methodist Church and found his faith in God when he was baptized in 2014. Hoss did many things in his 70 years on earth. He joined the Navy his senior year of high school to serve his country and wasn’t able to graduate with his class. While in the Navy, he earned his GED. But 53 years later he received his honorary high school diploma from Linden High School, along with his perfect attendance award for his 11 years in school. Hoss loved school and he loved serving his country. In 1972, he met the lady who would become his wife of 45 years, Margaret. During their life together, they had three children. Hoss loved his family and would do anything for them. He had such a soft heart for such a big man. He had a personality you could never forget. He loved going to the coffee shop every day and would have people laughing and smiling just from his wacky sense of humor. Hoss had many careers over his lifetime, from a mechanic, truck driver, worked as an actor/production crew on Charles Pierce Films, and was even a Municipal Judge and State Magistrate. He served his country in the Vietnam War, and a lifetime member of the DAV. Hoss enjoyed restoring hot rods, entering car shows, and old school racing. When it was his time, he decided that he was no longer in need of a heavy, non-functioning vehicle. He let us know he was ready for a new ride, a new city, and a new life with God. Hoss was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Wicker-May; one daughter, Crystal Lorena May; and two sisters, Diana May-Boatman and Lois May-Luce.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Atlanta, Texas; son, Bryan May of Atlanta, Texas; daughter, Holley Burns and husband Willie of Atlanta, Texas; two brothers, William May and wife Sharon of Atlanta, Texas, Michael May of Bivins, Texas; sister, Wylenne Surratt of Linden, Texas; his father, Aubrey May, Sr. of Bivins, Texas; four grandchildren, Blake Moore, Crystal Anne May, Cody Pilkington, and Savannah Lindsey; two great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Madalynn Moore; and one special nephew, Eric Garrison of Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Dr. John Wilkey officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, August 20, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.

Interment will be in Bethsaida “Y” Cemetery.

We want to thank the home based VA Primary Care, Dr. Luke Belsky, Dierksen Hospice, and the staff of Overton Brooks, VA for helping Hoss during his final hours on this earth.
