Obituary for Joe W. Srygley

Bro. Joe W. Srygley 77, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 22, 2017.

Born November 22, 1939, in Valliant, Oklahoma, Joe was the son of Joe D. and Jessie Srygley and grew up in New Boston, Tx. During college at ETSU, Joe surrendered to the ministry and later graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Beginning his 1st pastorate in Leesville, Texas while in seminary, Joe immediately recognized God had given him a passion to study scripture and preach the gospel. This passion only grew stronger with a quest to tell others “God had a wonderful plan for your life.” Countless people came to salvation in Christ through Bro. Joe’s ministry over the years as he served churches in Redwater, Hooks, and 35 years at FBC Atlanta, Texas. Post retirement, Bro. Joe continued to serve several churches in his surrounding community. His bride continued playing piano or organ. Joe’s love of preaching never ended.

Through the years, Joe enjoyed traveling with LeaEtta in their RV, camping, fishing, and hunting with grandchildren and friends. Joe was an avid reader of his Bible, along with writings by Charles Spurgon and C. S. Lewis and others. Many times one would find Joe studying with his favorite hymns, quietly in the background. Bro. Joe loved, loved, loved the people in his church, which he considered a sweet gift from God.

“REMEMBER OUR LAUGHTER” was his motto to LeaEtta. Those close to him will remember countless stories of history and travels to Australia, Korea, France, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Germany, Scotland and England he shared with LeaEtta. And to all of you reading this Bro. Joe would say: “IF I DON’T SEE YOU AGAIN, I’LL SEE YOU AT THE EAST PORCH GATE OF THE NEW JERUSALEM DURING THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGEMENT.”

Joe is survived by his High School sweetheart, and wife of 54 years, LeaEtta Alford Srygley; his brother, Gerald Srygley and wife Judy; Daughter, Joetta Davis and husband Kevin; son, Jimmy Srygley and wife Lisa; five grandchildren, Kelsey Allbritton and husband Tyler, Kaitlyn Davis, Kason Davis, Parker and Maryanna Srygley, and countless Extended family and friends close to Joe.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Atlanta under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Bro. Wes Mills, Bro. Mike Guzzardo and Bro. Dale Perkins officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, July 24, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.

Interment will be in Reed Hill Cemetery, New Boston, Texas.
