Obituary for Janet Rose Benson Kennedy

Janet Rose Benson Kennedy passed peacefully in her sleep on March 17, 2018.

She was born on July 17, 1941 in Springhill, Louisiana to L. J. and Ethel Benson. Jan was a member of Thomas Street Baptist Church. She was a woman of strong faith. It was not uncommon for friends to describe her as a mother, grandmother, or sister figure to them; friends were just family to her. Her family was EVERYTHING to her. She lived for stories of her children or grandchildren. She had an amazing laugh/cackle, and her friends and family tried often to bring that out. Fairness and love were important traits. If loved ones were wronged or hurt, they knew they had an ally in Jan (and the wrongdoer knew they better watch out if they ever crossed paths with firecracker Jan). She was a small package on this earth, but she was fierce, mighty and strong. “Can’t” was not in Jan’s vocabulary if her mind was set on a task. If you’ve held Jan’s hand, her skin was velvety soft, and she wouldn’t let you go. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Curtis Bowen Kennedy, II; and four sisters, Penny Penick, Yvonne Loomis, Rose Zynn, and Carol McInturf.

She is survived by her daughters, Penny Kennedy Lovejoy (Lavon), Pamela Kennedy Boylan; a brother, Jack Benson; sister, Rusty Ingram; four grandsons, Alon Lovejoy (Kayla), Curtis Lovejoy (Jessica), Jameson, and Charles Boylan; four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Cade, Ripley, and August Bowen.

Her legacy of love will live on in her children, her grand and great-grandchildren, and her family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.

Special thanks to Sherri Butler Hinerman and Diane Butler Vinson, who were angel caretakers during Jan’s last days on earth.
