Obituary for Erma Ragsdell Stuckey Dunlap

Erma Ragsdell Stuckey Dunlap, 96, of Cass, Texas went to be with the Lord Friday, March 30, 2018.

Erma was born April 25, 1921 in Lafayette County, Arkansas to Grover C. Ragsdell and Ruby M. Hathaway Ragsdell. She graduated from Atlanta High School and lived in the Cass Community most of her life. Erma loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Cass Baptist Church her entire life. She worked with the Cass Vacation Bible School until she was 94 years old.

She was an avid sports fan and especially followed the University of Texas Longhorns, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. She cheered for all of her “kids” at Bloomburg High School and received special recognition for attending basketball games for more than 60 years. She also enjoyed bowling leagues starting in the 1960s and bowled until she was 80 years old. She was dedicated to her daily exercise regimen, and inspired many people who saw her out walking.

In 1941 Erma married Lester Stuckey who owned a small grocery store in Cass, and she became stepmother to his three small children J.W., Farrel, and Roland. Lester passed away in 1964 and she operated the grocery store until 1981.

In 1972 she married Randall Dunlap and became stepmother to four more children, Annette, Yvonne, Randy, and Andy. They were all grown except Andy who was still living at home. They were married until Randall’s death in 1999. Her home was always a welcoming place for all of her stepchildren and their families.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, stepson J.W. Stuckey, stepdaughter Yvonne Rochelle, siblings William F. “Red” Ragsdell, P.V. “Buster” Ragsdell, Lillie Spivey, and Grace Wilbanks Sikes.

She is survived by her stepchildren Farrel Cutler and husband Richard of Lynden, Washington, Roland Stuckey and wife Mary of Atlanta, Texas, Annette Mertens of Kingston, Tennessee, Randy Dunlap of Shreveport, Louisiana, Andy Dunlap and wife Nora of Cass; daughter-in-law Sarah Stuckey of Glen Allen, Virginia; grandchildren Bob Cutler, Deborah Cutler, Ron Stuckey, Leslie Hall, Debbie Ward, Kristi Parham, Sandy Williams, Darlene Dean, Heather Gunsolus, Heath Dunlap; several great-grandchildren, special nieces Myrel Ham and Shelia Baugus, and a number of other relatives and friends.
